School of Physical Education and Sports Science

The School of Physical Education and Sport Science was established in 1999, based on the Department of Physical Education which was founded in September, 1951 in South China Normal University. Traditionally known for its training of P.E teacher and coach, community fitness tutor and the manager of sports club, the school now offers a full range of physical education, sports science and sports sociology programs from undergraduate, Master, doctor to post-doctorate.

During its 58-year history, the school has developed a reputation for excellence in teaching, training and research. It is the only sports disciplines in China which has been enrolled into the key discipline construction of "Project 211" since 1997.

Sports humanistic sociology of our school was, in 2007, approved for the State's Key Disciplines, The school was, in 2006, approved for the Key Discipline in Guangdong Province. There are four academic research bases and training centers in the school: “the Sports and Social Sciences Key Research Base of the State Sports General Administration” (2003), "Physical Fitness and Health Research Center of Guangdong Province” (2007), “National Sports and Arts Teacher Training Base” (2001), and “the Guangdong Provincial Physical Education Teacher Training Base of Primary and Secondary School” (2000).

Acknowledged internationally for the strength of its research in areas ranging from neuroscience and developmental sports science, the school continues to attract eminent researchers, talented students and high levels of research funding.
